Sports drinks for children’s exercise – What is the best nutrition for children?

These days, when you see kids exercising, they often drink sports drinks. Most parents think they are doing a good thing for their children, but could this offset the benefits of exercise for the children?

Exercise for children is of course beneficial, but what we add to it can sometimes do more harm than good! Most children will never train hard enough or participate in endurance sports for more than an hour, during which time they need to replace lost electrolytes.

Cons – Sports drinks are high in sugar, salt, colouring and preservatives. They literally rot their teeth. Sugar and salt combine with bacteria in the mouth to cause tooth decay.

When it comes to losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight, the last thing a child needs to add to their diet is a sports drink loaded with sugar and chemicals. Anyone who tells you something different is either misinformed or works for the company.

Children certainly need to stay hydrated and water is the best sports drink for children. The human body is 70% water and the brain is 80% water. It is therefore imperative that children consume a lot of water when they exercise.

helps the blood to circulate. The blood carries oxygen by targeting the organs and brain needed.
cools the body and maintains temperature.
aids digestion – essential for weight loss and a healthy body. If your child doesn’t excrete properly, toxins will find their way into their system.
eliminates toxins through the urinary system.
the brain is bathed in water. Children need water to think clearly.

Not only do sports drinks harm a child’s overall health, but water is the key to maintaining a healthy weight and increases the ability to concentrate and think. Water is the sports drink of choice for top performance in all areas of children’s fitness.
